February 3-19, 2010

February has been a month full of fun times and experiences for Kyle! The first part of the month was very exciting....it was Karl and Kyle's first trip alone! They flew down to see Oma, Opa, Aunt Ingrid, and Kyle's cousin, Chloe.

Yawn!! Kyle had to wake up just before 5:00 in the morning for their early flight.
The early hour was worth it! Kyle was so excited to see "baby Chloe."

Two trips to the zoo with Oma, Aunt Ingrid, and Chloe!

Playgroup at Kyle's house....how high can we make this tower, Amina?

Ww is for Wednesday, wind, and windsock. We had a perfectly windy day one of the days we learned about letter Ww.
The wind was blowing so hard it blew the windsock we hung sideways!

Letter Ww was also for weather. Kyle rolled his big die, counted the number of circles it had on top when it landed, then glued the same number of cotton balls onto his rain clouds mat to make clouds for each set of raindrops. Kyle loves doing this activity so we print one to match many occassions...snowmen for snow days, hearts for Valentines day, clouds for weather day, etc.

Painting one of the paper plates we used to make a bright, shiny sun while learning about weather. The great weather window clings were found several months ago at the Dollar Tree.

Using foam magnetic letters (three uppercase letter sets) found at the dollar section at Target, Kyle spells the lowercase words on this set of ABC cards (there are two cards for each letter so they don't learn that a letter is just for one thing. Example, A is not just for apple but also for acorn. It also helps for those letters that have more than one sound.) This is a great set of cards because it shows clear, realistic pictures with the words and the cards are very sturdy. Not only is Kyle able to practice spelling with this activity but he gets exposed to many basic sight words and he gets practice in matching upper and lowercase letters since the magnets are uppercase and the words on the cards are lowercase.

Another snowy day in Raleigh! Two weeks after our first snow we received another 2-2.5 inches. It didn't hang around for more than a day but was great snowball making snow.

Kyle made this snow measuring stick at the Kidzone at our club when it last snowed.

Tasting the snow

You know that windy day we had? Well, it was so windy that it knocked over the flagpole the USA flag was on! This became a great time to talk to Kyle about our flag (and the state one still standing) since its location in the gazebo fascinated Kyle.

Loves dump trucks

Although the dump truck actually moved through the snow this time, it was still a bit challenging. Finally Kyle decided the sidewalk was just so much better for pushing his dump truck.

Making Valentine magnets for our friends...painted wooden flowers pink, red, or purple then added Valentine stickers, foam stickers, and/or a stamp, put on a magnet, and to/from on the back and Kyle was done!

All this talk about love, hearts, and Valentines made Kyle extra cuddly!

A great consignment sale find....Barney board game!

Kyle has discovered that Mommy is very fun to climb on. I have tried to convince him that Daddy is just as much fun but he doesn't believe me yet.

Mmmmm, biting into chocolate on Valentine's Day.

Helping with the removal of the front part of his bed....after climbing onto the top of the rail several times we finally decided it was time to give Kyle a bit more "freedom" by removing the front part of his bed. It has worked out wonderfully.

Counting hearts on paper then laying candy hearts on each one and counting again. After counting both times, Kyle then had to choose the red heart that had the number he counted to on it. Of course after doing each sheet (all the way to number 15) he ate some of the candy hearts.

The completed sun project (and our letter Ww collage)

Finding out if three and four letter words can be made out of some of the letters in the word Valentine. He then glued ones that could be made out of Valentine onto one page and ones that could not onto another.

Peekaboo with Kaleigh at the Valentine's Day party.

Good times and good food with Alex at the Valentine's Day party.

A sweet moment with Kaleigh....lots of kisses (he only does forehead to forehead kisses) and laughter.

Decorating (and then eating) cookies with Michael and Mason.

Carrying his Valentines to the car after a great party.
